Wall hangings showing Bexley’s history
You can see these fabulous wall hangings on Thursdays between 10.30am and 1.30pm in our hall. The London Borough of Bexley’s history is depicted in tapestry from its beginning to the 18th, 19th and 20th centuries. They were made by a group of ladies who had no needlework skills at the start of the project. An experienced and creative teacher,Lorna Childs designed and led the project. The embroiderers came from Bexley Voluntary Service Council. The standard of embroidery is very high. When finished we suggested they should be displayed in a public place, However because Geddes Place had facilitated the group and meeting place they insisted that it should remain in our hall. Many different techniques are employed including stump work, gold work, black work and applique. Click on the arrows below to see all the hangings.
