This year Christian Aid Week is putting the spotlight on our global neighbours in Bangladesh. One of these’ neighbours’ is Morsheda a single mother of four living in a low lying island on the Bramaputra river. The only work she can get is as a labourer earning 74p a day which is barely enough to feed her children. Morsheda has a very hard life which is made even worse by regular flooding which often threaten her small house. The water comes into the house and the children are in danger of being drowned. On one occasion the youngest child was put into a big cooking bowl and her mother swam behind her down the river whilst Morsheda’s sister hung onto the other children. There is hope because with money raised from Christian Aid Week she will be able to create a raised earth plinth around her home to defend her small house in time of flood. If you would like to help Morsheda and others like her please support this year’s Christian Aid Week. To see how you could help see hereBangladesh, Christian Aid Week, flooding, Global neighbours
The Mayor of the London Borough of Bexley, Councillor Sybil Camsey (who also happens to be one of members and organist) paid a very welcome visit to our Lunch Club recently. Sybil met the people who were in for lunch and then had lunch herself. After lunch she put on her full regalia and told us something about it and also about her activities since she became mayor. If you would like to come to our lunch club see more here.
