A good number of our fellowship enjoyed a super tea in the garden at the home of Ursula and Paul Ayliffe. Although the weather forecast promised showers, good weather prevailed and we all spent an enjoyable afternoon together.
Delroy Brown, an elder at South Aston United Reformed Church, Birmingham, is featuring in Britain’s longest-running soap ‘Coronation Street’. He played Mike Richardson, father in the soap’s only actively Christian family.
He said: “Christianity has not been represented in a positive way up to now; when it is, it’s often in a poor light, pandering to negative stereotypes. We’re seen as boring do-gooders who aren’t really in touch with real life issues. I would like to think that Corrie can break that mould.”
Delroy’s role in Coronation Street was screened on Friday 10 July. He will also shortly be filming for Emmerdale.Bexleyheath United Reformed Church, Bexleyheath URC, Coronation Street, Corrie, Geddes Place United Reformed Church, Geddes Place URC
On Sunday 10th May we explored Jesus’ metaphor of the vine. The Church is the people of God,constantly grafting new members into an ever-growing plant and seeking nourishment through being rooted in the life, teachings and love of Christ.
It was therefore very appropriate that we welcomed five members by transfer from Welling URC (pictured with the Minister) and another, Pat Williams by reaffirmation of faith. Pat managed to escape the photo session! We are delighted to welcome them all and hope that we may be a blessing to them.
Our membership is growing which is something we thank God for and pray that we continue to receive His Grace and to feel the Holy Spirit working among us.Bexleyheath United Reformed Church, Bexleyheath URC, Geddes Place United Reformed Church, Geddes Place URC, New church members
Many people gathered at our service on the morning of April 26th to witness the commissioning of Ann Cook as an accredited national lay preacher. Not only were there people from our own fellowship but also those who had supported Ann in many ways during her TLS course especially those who had supported her during the ‘Gateway to worship’ module. We were particularly pleased to welcome Des Colchin, Southern Synod Development Officer and the Revd. John Key, Ann’s tutor, who both took part in the service which was led by our own Minister, the Revd. John Cook.
