Many people look around for something to give up for Lent. If you are wondering about what to do how about taking up the challenge of ”40acts’ for something different this year?
40acts is the generosity challenge for Lent, created by UK Christian charity, Stewardship. For seven years, 40acts has asked a question: what if Lent could be about more than just giving stuff up? What if it could be a time of radical generosity as well as spiritual discipline?
When founded the aim was to turn Lent upside down, on it’s head and instead of giving up, the idea was to give out with a simple generous act for 40 days. And so 40acts was created.
Over the years, 40acts has become a movement of over 100,000 people on a mission to impact their communities with generosity – during Lent and beyond.
Purple clad bishops at Leicester station gave out sweet treats to amused commuters, school children in Exeter to Dumfries paid each other compliments. Gardens were weeded, chocolate distributed, new friendships created, old friendships renewed, presents delivered, skills shared, barriers removed, love exchanged and reconciliations made.
Sounds intriguing? It launches on 14th February so have a look here for more information
